Zoning and subdivision ordinances are the county’s primary tools to manage growth through regulations. In 2009, Powhatan County retained a team led by McBride Dale Clarion (MDC) and Clarion Associates to update its comprehensive plan. That effort was completed in July 2010, when the Board of Supervisors adopted the 2010 Comprehensive Plan. Soon hereafter, in late 2010, the county then asked MDC and Clarion to assist it in undertaking a comprehensive update to its zoning and subdivision regulations (code update), in large part to implement the newly adopted comprehensive plan.
The work program for the code update project involves four main tasks:
- Task 1: Project Initiation and Scoping;
- Task 2: Ordinance Diagnosis/Annotated Outline;
- Task 3: Draft Update Code; and
- Task 4: Public Hearing on Updated Code
This site will serve as a forum for discussion of the elements of the code update as well as source of information and public notice of events associated with the process.
